History

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever made its professional premiere at Seattle Children's Theatre on November 26, 1982.

Castanya Breen fell in love with theater in the third grade while performing on a church stage in Texas, and she has never looked back. From costuming and performing to teaching and directing, live theater has been a lifelong passion. Now, after moving to Davie County earlier this year, she is bringing that passion to the Brock Performing Arts Center.

Castanya is excited to be back in the director’s chair and to collaborate with local artists. “I love meeting new people, helping them grow, and watching them entertain others,” she shared. “Live theater feeds off connection and community.”

Barbara Robinson (1927-2013) wrote several popular books for children, including My Brother Louis Measures Worms, The Best School Year Ever, The Best Halloween Ever, and the enormously popular bestselling novel The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, first published in 1972, which was made into a classic TV movie and on which this play was based. The Best Christmas Pageant Ever is produced annually in theaters, schools, and churches all over the world. Ms. Robinson passed away in 2013 and is survived by her two daughters and three grandchildren.
